Fish remains on top of my subjects lately and in this busy work, a school of fish runs in a whirlwind motion. The size is huge by my standards because a UK collector wanted 4 pieces of this size and I gave it a try. In this new work I'm focusing on wildlife and elephants in particular. I have done several paintings on elephants. This one is a little more interesting as it shows part of the face, particularly, the eye. Emphasis is on a network of skin wrinkles on the face of an old matriarch or the lead cow. I did it with a modern approach making it a 'modern elephant'.

BODA BODA (MOTOR BIKE TAXI) BATIK

 The bodaboda or motorbike taxis is a big public transport industry throughout East Africa. With the absence of modern transport infrastructure, these motorbikes are the best choice for many because they are quick and their ability to maneuver the narrow streets clogged with traffic jam. In Kampala, the Ugandan capital, they are everywhere ridden by mostly young men who depend on the little income generated to take care their families. This batik shows a scene at a traffic stop in Kampala. Batik on cotton fabric.
